Artist's Statement-
My artwork has an illustrative quality about it, conveying emotion and depth with bold hues, hard lines and vivid detail. In my work, I use vibrant colors and energetic shapes to express beauty and meaning with a modern, contemporary style. My background in computer graphics and art history give me the ability to successfully merge design with fine art. My method of creation consists of constructing an image using various graphic design tools. Once satisfied, I sketch the finished composition onto canvas and paint it. This approach allows me the freedom of versatility while maintaining my message.
I find pop culture and sequential art to be fascinating, and my work tends to emulate that. My elaborate use of color, shape and design, spawn a connection with a given subject while my two dimensional illustration and painting style, create a sense of nostalgia. My work is representational yet non-realistic. True to form with a distinctive view. I paint life as I see and feel it in a way that deviates from the norm. I work mostly with acrylics on canvas. I enjoy acrylics because they are bright, bold, extremely resourceful and accurately depict the mood I want my paintings to convey.
Artist's Biography-
I have lived in the state of Kentucky all of my life and around the city of Berea since the age of thirteen. I studied computer graphic design and art history at Spencerian College in Lexington, KY. I have always been intrigued with art in all its forms. Some of my earliest memories are of drawing action figures and creating cartoons characters at the dinner table. In high school, my art class was given an assignment to make an original piece of art. I, being a huge fan of comic books, made a poster of original super heroes. Upon presenting the teacher with my work, I was surprised to hear her say, "Good drawings, but comic books are not art." I wholeheartedly disagreed with her. I suppose her words have given me motivation to show that art is anything that moves people.
I have been featured in numerous art shows and exhibitions in recent years and have a dedicated following.
