Schon seit längerem beschäftige ich mich mit einem ganz speziellen Problem der abstrakten Malerei – dem Minimalismus.

Das ist hochintellektuell äusserst anspruchsvoll.

Man kann nicht einfach so einen Strich ziehen (das wäre banal), die Leinwand einfach leer lassen (lächerlich) oder die Leinwand monochrom einfärben (einen ähnlichen Ansatz gab es bereits mit dem schwarzen Quadrat von Kasimir Malewitsch).

Ich zielte auf einen wirklich minimalistischen Ansatz aber mit einer dafür wuchtigen Aussage.

Und der Einfall die Inspiration zu meinem Werk „ALMOST NOTHING“ kam.

Vor längerer Zeit lag ich mit einer Krebserkrankung im Krankenhaus. Da dieser Krebs weder auf Chemotherapie noch auf Bestrahlung reagiert gab/gibt es nur die chirurgische Alternative. Ich wurde also operiert.

So ein todkranker und hilfloser Mensch hängt an verschiedenen Maschinen. Überwachungsmonitore zeigen die Körperfunktionen. Das klappt nicht bei allen und der Mensch verstirbt. Ein Alarm geht los und dann gibt es eine Menge Hektik auf der Station. Ein Arzt kommt und stellt den Exitus fest. Ein zweiter Arzt kommt und bestätigt den Tod. Erst dann werden die Maschinen abgestellt. Die Linie auf dem Monitor ist flach geworden. Der Verstorbene wird von der Technik abgehängt und ganz zum Schluss werden auch die Monitore abgeschaltet. Die Linie fällt zu einem Punkt zusammen und dann erlischt auch dieser.

Da qualche tempo mi sto confrontando con un problema molto specifico della pittura astratta: il minimalismo.

È un'arte altamente intellettuale ed estremamente impegnativa.

Non puoi semplicemente tracciare una linea (sarebbe banale), lasciare la tela bianca (ridicolo) o colorarla monocromaticamente (un approccio simile era già stato esplorato con il Quadrato Nero di Kazimir Malevich).

Ho puntato a un approccio veramente minimalista, ma con un messaggio forte.

Ed è così che è nata l'idea per la mia opera "QUASI NULLA".

Qualche tempo fa ero in ospedale per un cancro. Dato che questo cancro non rispondeva né alla chemioterapia né alla radioterapia, l'intervento chirurgico era l'unica opzione. Così mi sono sottoposto a un intervento.

Una persona malata terminale e indifesa come quella viene collegata a diverse macchine. I dispositivi di monitoraggio mostrano i suoi parametri vitali. Questo non funziona per tutti e la persona muore. Suona un allarme e poi c'è molta confusione in reparto. Arriva un medico e dichiara il decesso del paziente. Arriva un secondo medico e conferma il decesso. Solo allora le macchine vengono spente. La linea sul monitor si appiattisce. Il defunto viene scollegato dall'apparecchiatura e infine i monitor vengono spenti. La linea si riduce a un punto, e poi anche quello scompare.

For some time now, I've been grappling with a very specific problem in abstract painting—minimalism.

It's highly intellectual and extremely demanding.

You can't just draw a line (that would be banal), leave the canvas blank (ridiculous), or color the canvas monochromatically (a similar approach was already explored with Kazimir Malevich's Black Square).

I aimed for a truly minimalist approach, but with a powerful statement.

And that's how the idea for my work "ALMOST NOTHING" came about.

Some time ago, I was in the hospital with cancer. Since this cancer didn't respond to either chemotherapy or radiation, surgery was the only option. So I had an operation.

A terminally ill and helpless person like that is hooked up to various machines. Monitoring devices display their vital signs. This doesn't work for everyone, and the person dies. An alarm goes off, and then there's a lot of commotion on the ward. A doctor comes and pronounces the patient dead. A second doctor comes and confirms the death. Only then are the machines switched off. The line on the monitor has flattened. The deceased is disconnected from the equipment, and finally, the monitors are switched off. The line collapses to a point, and then that, too, disappears.
