    BIO

Video interviews are becoming an increasingly popular option for recruiters and candidates alike. They’re more convenient for the recruiter, and they allow you to be interviewed in the comfort of your own home, which a lot of people find preferable. Skype interviews will generally follow the same conventions as a normal interview, but there are a few things that are important to bear in mind in order to ensure it’s a success.

1 – Dress for the occasion

Depending on how much of you is visible on the screen, you may be able to get away with keeping your pyjama bottoms on, but other than that you should still be in the attire you would wear if attending a face to face interview. This will show you are serious about the position.

    2 – Do a trial run

We all know that relying on technology can be risky. In order to ensure everything is in working order, get a friend or family member to Skype you prior to your interview. Then not only will you know you have a good internet connection, you can also check the audio is working and that you are visible enough.

    3 – Prepare notes

Probably the biggest benefit to candidates undergoing a Skype interview is the ability to keep notes an materials around you to help you along. Be careful not to make it obvious you are looking at them, and refrain from reading anything from a page or script. However, CV writing help suggest you to make a list of all the things you feel will be important to mention and keep it handy to check you’ve covered everything.

    4 – Choose your backdrop

Location is quite important when being interviewed via Skype. Your bedroom is not really an ideal location, unless it’s unclear that this is where you are. A plain backdrop is always best. It may be worth asking family members or housemates to pop out while your interview takes place so that you have free rein of the house and can find the best location. Remove anything such as dirty plates or laundry away from view.

    5 – Avoid interruptions

As well as turning your phone off, make sure you get rid of any other interruptions that could occur. This includes closing Facebook, turning your emails to do not disturb and so on. The temptation to click on them is not worth you being distracted from the interview. Also remember to put the cat out!

    6 – Be Audible

Making sure your microphone is in working order is important, but it’s equally important to consider any background noise. This could be the dishwasher or washing machine, or even traffic if you have the window open.
