“Little shelf, you who hold a cup Full of living roses, Teach me, to you, When I reach out, to be true, To see clearly far and near. What I placed in you, I will take back.” If our lives could be like a shelf, where we set things down, then what is placed there remains and is preserved; one could also say that what is placed there must be taken back by oneself. Thoughts are also something we set down, nurture, and fill our living space with, and a thought as an expression manifests in actions and decisions, coming forth like seeds that later sprout or remain buried, never experiencing their growth. In the sculpture, I wanted to embody a surrealistic interpretation of a symbolic shelf, which carries riches of experience in its wings, ears, throat, and feet. It is a tribute to the inner journey of the soul throughout life—from beginning to end. Without dismissing any of the experiences, only holding them within, recording them all like on a tape. The shelf speaks of the events we go through, the choices we make, deep heartaches, and moments when the soul has the strength to pull itself out of decline and the great responsibility toward its inner world. In this work, I personally talk about the significant points in my life that have guided me through various experiences, downfalls, and the strength to rise again. Filling oneself as a value, giving meaning to one’s purpose in life not only enriches the inner world but all that surrounds it. And if these treasures resonate across different times and spaces, in the context of this life or even many lives.
