Let's love grandmas

Maria Wegrzyniak-Szczepkowska - Poland

Who better than our grandmothers to fit into the theme of "deconstruction - construction"? They are the ones who, thanks to their patience, acquired skills and desire to be needed, undertake various alterations.

They unravel old sweaters and knit them anew - socks, scarves, gloves, hats. Most often for grandchildren, but not only.

Unfortunately, these products sometimes have a short life, because they get lost, get damaged in the wash or lie at the bottom of the wardrobe because "they did not suit the taste of the recipient".

But sometimes they are worn with pride and delight. In any case, such recycling has been taking place in our homes for centuries.

It was often a necessity, because there was no money for new things. Sometimes, however, it was about having something original that no one else could have.

Only grandmothers were capable of such challenges. Being a bit on the sidelines of everyday affairs, less physically fit, they did what they could to be needed and at the same time fill the time given to them with meaningful activity. Not always properly appreciated for their work, commitment and artistry. Weaving into their knitting all good thoughts and all the love for those for whom they created new garments, they gave more than could be expected.
