Icona Bruciata

krzysztof gostkowski - Italy

"Icona Bruciata" is an artistic meditation on the contemporary significance of symbols that once stood as unshakable pillars of our civilization. At the center of the work lies a sign—burnt by the inner contradictions of the world that created it—serving as a testimony to the inevitable disintegration of both material and ideological values.

The materials used—charred wood, colored quartz granules, and a specially prepared mineral-based structure—form a physical narrative of fragility, impermanence, and destruction. Each element has been fixed using a personal technique that preserves the authentic, raw texture of the surface without diminishing the natural matte quality of the materials.

"Icona Bruciata" does not depict the fall of a single symbol, but offers a universal reflection on the state of today's world, where what was once unquestionable is now losing its meaning, turning into ashes and memory. The work invites the viewer to pause and ask: are the icons of our time truly fireproof—or are they being consumed by the very flames we ourselves have ignited?
