National Anthem

Rodrigo Garrido - Mexico

"National Anthem" questions traditional conceptions of nationality and borders, portraying a middle-aged individual who grew up in an era marked by the promises of globalization and neoliberalism, and who now navigates a world where nationalism is resurging as a force seemingly in opposition to globalization. The work points to what the artist sees as an ideology designed to divert attention from deeper systemic issues. While the resurgence of nationalism raises questions about identity and belonging, the work also asks what place nationalism holds in a world that has created a "new alien species": artificial intelligence.
