Server The Planet
The work has a dual reading, one consistent with the present and another telling of a more or less distant future. On the one hand, it wants to draw attention to all the natural elements that are useful for the operation of part of the network infrastructure such as data centers.
These not only emit CO2, but require. large amounts of water, practices of. deforestation are implemented to construct the buildings where dozens or hundreds of servers will be started.
In addition, servers like all high-performance electronics are precisely composed of many precious materials mined from the earth such as copper, gold which is an excellent conductor, graphite minerals of various kinds, rare earths such as coltan for semiconductors, and the now-discussed lithium.
The other reading is that of the return of nature's dominance over all that man has built and whose ruins will remain as skeletons left to decay.
The title of the work adds a hint of sarcasm about the sustainable rhetoric that. concerning technologies, every time you use technologies to save the planet at the same time you. are helping to destroy it.
