Rui Mourão (b. 1977 in Lisbon, Portugal) lives and works in Lisbon, Portugal.

He has studied photography and contemporary art at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and acting / cinema at Centre d’Estudis Cinematogràfics de Catalunya (Barcelona). He has studied visual arts at Maumaus - Visual Arts School (Lisbon) and at Konsthögskolan i Malmö / Malmö Art Academy (Malmö, Sweden). He made a postgraduate in Digital Visual Cultures at ISCTE (Lisbon).

He was selected to: the Portuguese national show of Jovens Criadores / Young Creators, video section (2006 and 2007); Anteciparte - A Selection of Portuguese Up Coming Artists (2009); and FUSO – The Lisbon International Video Art Annual (2010) where he received the Audience Award.

He made artistic collaborations for Coco Fusco (MACBA - Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona, 2002) and Erwin Wurm (Malmö Konstmuseum, 2008). He participated in the Lisbon - Budapest City Hall art residences exchange programme staying for one month in Budapest (2012). He presented his first film at Portuguese Cinematheque - Museum of Cinema (2013).
