HERNANDO URRUTIA    - visual artist

Born in 1964, lives and works in Funchal, Portugal. Doctor's Degree (PhD)  Digital Media Arts in at the University "Do Algarve"/ University "Aberta" in Portugal. He studied Visual Arts in the "Instituto Departamental de Bellas Artes" in Cali (Colombia) and Design at the University "Pontificia Bolivariana UPB" of Medellín (Colombia). Throughout his artistic activity, participated in several Works-Shops, Seminars and Symposia Post-Graduation in the areas of Conceptual Art, Video Art, Ethno-Archaeology and Art, Conceptual Figures of aesthetics Post-Modern, Hermeneutics and Criticism Art, New Artist in Conflict Inter-Globalization, Film and Video, Relevance of Theory in the Arts, Communication and Semiotics of Art, Experimental Video in the field and Feature Film, Art at its Extremes, Methodology for Realization and evaluation of projects for research, Semiotics and Hermeneutics of Art,  with important personalities such as: Gerardo Mosquera of Cuba ( Curator ), Ingo Petzke (author of Video Art in Germany), Pere Salabert Sole Professor and Researcher Art at the University of Barcelona, Spain), Pedro Alzuru (Professor, Researcher and Director of ICE: Aesthetics Research Centre at the University of the Andes), Perán Erminy (Professor, researcher and critic of Art AICA: (Association of International Art Critics), among others.



For some years was devoted to teaching, as Professor, Coordinator of technical area and Coordinator of professional fields in Universities from Colombia and Venezuela. It made several related investigations Imaging and Research Field on the signs and symbols “the musical sounds of the Amazon”, in various ethnic groups in the Amazon. Trainer and Exponent in several seminars and symposia coordinate, art curator on National and International Exhibitions in South America and Europe. He was invited for several years as jury selection and award of prizes in exhibitions, competitions and art salons. Founder, Director, Coordinator and Member of some cultural projects, Founder and Director of "Punto Visual", Founder and Director of the Foundation "Ha-Ser" Contemporary Art, Founder and Director Musical Group Research and Experimentation Sounds "Celacanto", Member and Curator of the art collective "Mad Space Invaders", Founder and Director the  “+ art contemporary”.

Has been published in books, magazines, newspapers, art catalogues, blogs and web sites, has also been interviewed several times on television and radio in some countries through which it has passed. He has received awards for his art and for his support of culture especially the Contemporary Arts

Since 1986, having made more than 100 Group Exhibitions and 8 Solo Exhibitions in several Museums and Galleries, in countries such as France, Colombia, Venezuela, Portugal and USA.
