    BIO

    Hi, I’m PicPoc!

I love great coffee, good wine and beautiful art ...or at least I’d like to believe so, haha! - But there’s always the possibility that I may be completely out of my mind!

I started my adventure with art back in Europe where I was born and grew up and where the first of my traditional paintings were created. At 18 I moved to Australia where I became interested in the process of digital art and digital media. After studying visual effects for 2 years, I become a professional visual effects artist,

Now, let me have a little rant…

Visual effects are about as creative and artistic as bloody brick laying! Surely there must be a great brick sculpture out there but it’s most likely been created by an artist and not built by a builder. And honestly, I feel more like a VFX builder rather than an artist.

That feels better! Ok, now where was I?

    Ah, yes - work.
Since 2004 I have worked on many commercial projects, which more often than not, are limited creatively by the client. To compensate, occasionally I work with young filmmakers to help with post production and visual effects on their short films. That kind of work is very satisfying.
If you’re interested you can have a look at a sample of my work here:

Now that I’m older and wiser I’m trying to reconnect with art and painting. I want to believe it’s a rational idea born out of wisdom, determination and the need to be creative. But, it is most likely driven by the same thing that got me on a motorbike and riding into the sunset (perhaps a middle age crisis, haha) only to forget my bloody sunnies. Riding along with a big smile on my face, going straight for the sun and then missing a turn and ending up in a ditch…

Wait a second, is that where I am heading? Damn you self-doubt!!!

But not to worry, I’m sure I’m not the only one facing my own demons from time to time :).

When it comes to my paintings; there are some that are just filled with the playfulness of colour and light, and there are some that stand for the loner that I am. But in truth, they all have a bit of story to tell.
Currently, I have started preparing for a series of paintings. The series will look at a theme that I have touched before but not really fully explored. It is going to be about personal freedom that most of us seek within ourselves.
It is hard to personally describe what drives the artist within, but there is a poem that I wrote as a narration for my student short film called ‘Birdie Wife’ that sums it up pretty well for me. Please have a read and make sure you visit again as there will be a lot more from me this coming year.

    “Birdie Wife”

She opened her eyes, to see what is there
She opened her ears, to hear a word
Her mind lead her on, going to nowhere
So she kept dreaming, free as a bird

Then came the Unknown, great like an ocean
Disturbed her at night, disrupted her dream
It touched her cheek, provoked emotion
Then turn the light on, a single beam

The beam that's a whisper, her only chance
Spoken in silence, it gave her life
It echoed around her, in graceful dance
Then grew even louder, as sharp as a knife

No more a whisper, shining and wide
The word so clear now, became a shout
It followed her scent, looking for a bride
And when it asked, she had no doubt

They wedded at once, become as one
Wonders had happened, they thought they’d last
Innocence it is, but days will run
Long-drown were these years, shadows they cast

Shadows got stronger, covered all light
Fainter were whispers, so was her life
Her face was older, but skin pure white
The words still called her, their "birdie-wife"

Autumn came forward, so did winds too
    Whispers like feathers, dispersed around
Birds and their mistress, now split in two
Shouting their names out, without a sound

A drop in a sea, as deep as vast
It's just a moment, that past them by
Time is cold-hearted, and moves to fast
It left dreams behind, where frozen their lie

Can't hear her ear now, can't see her eye
The words once spoken, faded and died
To life that she knew, she said goodbye
And everything else, has gone with the tide

Ooh, wow, if you made it up to here you must be either bloody bored or very interested in what I have to say :). Anyway, Thank you very much for your time! Put on a big smile and enjoy your day!
