Balcony Garden

Painted looking out onto the artist’s balcony in Sydney, Australia during summer, this work draws on childhood memories of wandering through enchanted gardens and a love of flowers. Although based on a real view, the scene is transformed through an abstract and expressionist approach, where colour, texture, and emotion take precedence over strict realism. Cascading flowers, luminous greenery, and vibrant interior forms create a space that feels both intimate and dreamlike. Two inquisitive Australian Sulphur-crested Cockatoos, frequent visitors to the balcony, are captured in a tender moment, appearing to embrace on the railing - a brief and beautiful moment in time that inspired the work. Their presence deepens the sense of wonder and connection that runs through the painting. Balancing everyday stillness with the abundance of the natural world, the work celebrates joy, memory, and the enchantment of seeing ordinary life through a sense of wonder.
