Here, in the manner of Magritte, the artist demonstrates that what meets the eye can conceal a great deal more.
He begins with an absurd premise: imagining that olive wood—normally extremely hard—becomes soft, allowing strong pressure to alter its appearance. As the clamp is tightened, the wood bulges in response, taking on the form we see before us.
Yet, is this not a kind of metaphor for the human experience of everyday life?
