"Aurora"

Acrylic on canvas, 80 × 120 × 4 cm, 2025

The title Aurora refers to the Roman goddess of the dawn and forms the conceptual starting point for this large-scale portrait. The work explores the moment of transition in which darkness and light, stillness and movement, past and future converge. The figure depicted does not appear as an individual person, but as a symbol of constant change.

The composition is characterised by a dynamic lateral movement. The luminous hair, encompassed by the pictorial space, unfolds like a stream of light and energy, forming a powerful contrast to the cooler blue and violet tones of the face. This juxtaposition creates a tension-filled balance between warmth and cold, new beginnings and concentration.

The surface emerges from a multitude of precisely placed colour segments that deliberately keep the transition between figuration and abstraction open. From a distance, the individual colour fields coalesce into a cohesive whole; up close, they reveal their independence as an autonomous painterly structure. The pictorial space thus becomes a place of constant transformation, in which colour not only describes form but also generates meaning in its own right.

The portrait gazes into the distance and opens up an imaginary space beyond what is immediately visible. Aurora thus becomes a metaphor for renewal, hope and the creative power of a new beginning. The work combines expressive colour with contemporary portraiture and explores the question of how identity, memory and visions of the future can converge in a single pictorial moment.
