Signe Søjberg Højlt (1981), is an Aarhus [DK] based theatredirector, performer and artist. Signe’s work is founded in improvisation and devising within the interdisciplinary arts field. She started performing on Teater Billedspor in 2001 and worked there as a performer and singer for 13 years. From 2014-2019 she directed Teater Timp. Both theatres were interdisciplinary art theatres and worked with both musicians and performers and was based on devising and improvisation.
As a performer Signe Søjberg Højlt improvises with herself as an instrument with movement, with voice or any kind of object given. Signe plays with sounds, objects, and contemporary dance, and she uses rhythms, tempo, or tones as a tool for exploring the room between music and performance. In this room she seeks to compose, a choreography, an act or even develop a scene together with the musician in a free improvisation.
Signe often seeks a rhythm in her artworks which comes to life through improvisation and that is carried by the musicians and the performers unique resources and qualities. During 2021 the artist is occupied with working in, about and for nature and she uses the UN goals as a starting point for these video works and performances.
Signe Søjberg Højlt is currently engaged in many different art projects such as, creating videoart, directing a short film, and developing performances for art museums.
