Raf Tarnawski was born in Wroclaw.
His first passion was photography. At the age of 10 he took his first photos. Then he began to be interested in drawing and graphic design. He had his first solo exhibition of graphics (mainly self-portraits drawings) while still in high school. In the late 1970s he moved to Lund, Sweden, where he graduated from a graphic design school. Over the next few years he worked in photography, graphic design, illustration and advertising, working as a Creativ Director in international advertising agencies. In the late 1980s, he had his first solo exhibition of his paintings in Eslov, Sweden.

In 2006, he began studying as a free student in the sculpture studio of Prof. P. Wrona at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.
Since then, he has presented his sculptural works in individual and group exhibitions in Poland, Germany, France, Taiwan, Italy and Sweden.

The main subject of his works is women. At first, he used classical techniques working in clay, plaster and bronze. The basic material of his sculptures is a conglomeration of several natural elements: the need for aesthetics and beauty combined with the matter of dreams and desires. He treats art as a form of communication. Universal communication on a higher level. On the level of aesthetics and beauty - that ethereal substance that is the basis of the existence of this universe and gives meaning to our lives.

He treats his sculptures as vessels that he fills with emotions and desires: the joy of an encounter, the warmth of a sunset, or a longing for what could be. There is always some part of himself in them, some piece of his life. Each of them is a reflection of his subjective memories and experiences. By presenting the time and emotions frozen in them, he invites us to another dimension, to a zone free from the chaos of galloping reality. He gives us a chance to find harmony and regain distance from the world around us.
