Lay

Lay was born after a residency in Iceland, during which I studied the form and behavior of some oceanic algae capable of withstanding harsh environmental conditions thanks to their flexibility and adaptability. I reinterpreted them and made them my own by reinventing a plaster matrix onto which I poured molten lead, a material equally adaptable but with its own 'weight,' its own significance, in the desire to evoke how heroic it can sometimes be not only to resist but also to bend and accept the currents.
