Among the Flowers I

daehak Oh - Korea (south)

Among the Flowers I is built from thousands of small torn pieces of hanji, layered by hand until they gather into a dense, textured field. Rather than planning a fixed composition, I let the accumulation of individual fragments determine the surface's density and rhythm, leaving an unworked passage of dark, ink-stained wood grain as a kind of open breathing space within the field.

The piece carries no single fixed narrative, but grew out of a looser idea: a landscape that could not exist in reality, where accumulation and emptiness sit side by side without resolving into one another. I'm interested in how a surface built entirely through repetition, thousands of small gestures of tearing and placing, can suggest a whole field without ever depicting one directly.
