Chicago Impressions explores how a city is reconstructed through memory.
After leaving Chicago, two images remained especially vivid to me: the jazz I heard in a city park and the reflective form of Cloud Gate. In the painting, I place jazz inside Cloud Gate, allowing sound, landmark, reflection, and travel memory to merge within a single image.
Cloud Gate no longer functions only as an object in the city; it becomes a vessel for perception, holding fragments of what I saw, heard, and felt.
Memory does not preserve a place intact. It selects, distorts, and recomposes experience.
Chicago Impressions is therefore less a portrait of Chicago than an image of what the city became after passing through memory.
