Independent Orbits, Coexisting Galaxies

Jungok Lee - Korea (south)

The human body, our fingerprints, and the vast structure of the cosmos itself all resemble one another, as if sharing a single master blueprint. The "Fractal structure," where a part mirrors the whole in endless repetition, and the "Golden Ratio (1:1.618)," which achieves visual and mathematical harmony, both prove that our existence aligns perfectly with the laws of the universe. Just as countless galaxies exist independently in space, each following its own designated orbit, every human being is a complete and autonomous microcosm engaged in its own revolution. Each of us possesses an inner world maintained by our own unique mass and gravity. The vital spiritual planets within an individual revolve silently in a three-dimensional space, utterly immune to the interference or alteration of others. Just as planets are driven into continuous motion by the immense energy of the sun, our inner worlds move forward by their own intrinsic forces. There is no physical intersection between these discrete "Small Star Systems." We can never change another person through mere "words." Language, being a mere wave, lacks the tangible energy required to alter someone else's orbit. What moves a planet is solely "action," which carries substantive energy. Only the energy generated by my actions can truly move the other planets orbiting around me, creating a new force of attraction. This work visualizes these invisible cosmic forces and the dynamics of human relationships through the medium of thread. The act of interlocking a single strand of flexible yet resilient thread with a crochet hook closely mirrors the process of living—weaving connections with others and building one's own world. The repetitive loops and knots characteristic of crochet represent both the division of cells and the trajectories left behind by revolving planets; they are the shapes of individual microcosms densely woven within a three-dimensional space. The society we live in is a colossal galaxy flowing with individual small star systems. Just as a textile warps and distorts when threads are pulled too tightly together, the only way we can coexist in this vast galaxy without collapsing is, paradoxically, by maintaining a "proper distance." When we ignore inherent gravity, trespass into another's orbit, and draw too close, galaxies inevitably collide, leading to a catastrophic explosion. Every human being is a star that shines with its own light. As an artist, I draw thread with the tip of my crochet hook to weave a cosmic truth: we must fully respect each other's independent systems, maintain the optimal distance to avoid mutual destruction, and coexist in harmony.
