IMPERMANENCE

We flow in our existence, sculpted by personal stories, education and the sociocultural environment. When life shakes us with an adverse, tragic or painful event, we stop to reflect on how we become who we are. In this work composed of seven trilogies of mixed media masks, each artist expresses his metamorphosis through a mask inspired by the petroglyphs of northern Chile and the Rapa Nui culture. (1)

The work displays multiple symbolisms and the process of change is revealed in the supports of the three masks. The INFERIOR ones in felt, dense and rigid, are the stereotypes, where the mirrors insinuate that we are reflections without going inside ourselves. The INTERMEDIAS in organza, compact and folded, are deconstruction, with folds that narrate the traces and scars of what has been experienced. The SUPERIOR masks in embroidery, light and ethereal, are transcendence, where the essential persists, with gaps that sculpt the imperceptible of each human being.
