Ula Gogol, a sculptor, focuses on the search for biological structures within forms in her work. She creates cycles of abstract works, often incorporating figurative elements.
The Polish artist describes her art as follows: ‘My sculptures are the emotions that overwhelm me; the fears that arise; experiences, sensations, and anxieties; my existence suspended between the interior and exterior. The attempt to connect these two parallel worlds emerges in new, often incompatible forms. The exterior both fascinates and attracts me, as well as terrifies me, gathering fears and anxieties. That’s why the ability to enter the inner world is such a significant part of my life.’

ARTIST STATEMENT
As a sculptor, I search for form. Form hidden in the material, emerging from the chaos of matter. Biological structures are a constant source of my inspiration and their transformations under the influence of external factors. Time is one of the most important factors influencing the change in their shape. The arrangement of the interior is transformed in parallel with the exterior. In art history, I was taught about the inseparable connection between the artist’s biography and their art. My sculptures are the emotions that rage within me; the fears that arise; experiences, sensations, worries; my being suspended between the inside and the outside. The attempt to connect these two parallel worlds emerges in new, often incompatible forms. The outside world both fascinates and attracts me, as well as frightens me, accumulating fears and worries. That is why the possibility of entering the inner world is such an important element of my life. Innerness belongs only to me, which is why I struggle with extremes. I clear my head by building forms. I find a place for fears, emotions, worries, amazement, and fascinations. I shape external forms that live in my interior, freeing them from the long wait for maturity. They hatch under the influence of the experiences that the environment provides. I see my forms as truncated, unfinished, fragmentary. I assemble them, sew them together with painful red thread, and pour them over with transparent resin. The clarity, the shine of the resinous tissue attracts. It reveals the crystalline structures of the interior. However, it defends itself with protruding thorns, leaving drops of sweat. Something new is created – an organism molded from imagination, from the fought battle of two parallel worlds. Its shell bulges, swells, winds, penetrates one into the other, has no desire to coexist. However, it creates a whole suspended in space-time. It needs support, a hanger, a supporting structure for common existence. The obtained form shapes the image of my life – inside and outside, constant struggle.
