CV – Antigoni Manolidou

I was born in Thessaloniki, Greece and I reside in Thessaloniki and Athens. Although I initially studied medicine, I proceeded with a BA in Fine Arts from the Department of Fine and Applied Arts from the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki in 2004. Since then I have participated in numerous group exhibitions in Athens, Cyprus,  Alexandria, Vienna, Amsterdam and London and have held solo exhibitions in Greece.

My work is anchored in landscapes and objects isolated from their familiar surroundings and presented in a way that creates a doubtful atmosphere. My starting point is often urban architecture: residential blocks, abandoned industries, internal spaces defined by clean cut forms and unspecified fields. These subjects are chosen with the intension to create a kind of inversion; familiar elements resolve into unfamiliar settings  of stillness and void. The extent to which recognizable forms are used discourages, rather than stimulates further visual extrapolation.
