Contemporary figurative artist who creates three-dimensional paintings with her own unique technique, using papier-mâché, canvas, and oil paint. Her works reveal a sculptural vision of form, surprising the viewer with their structural diversity and a profound focus on the many facets of human existence. At the heart of her practice is the human being. She is deeply absorbed by the presence of others and the complexities of our shared experience. Through the precise gestures of the silhouettes, Lastovjak materializes universal values such as unity, compassion, and love, while also confronting darker themes like jealousy and deceit. Her works are not moralizing; rather, they showcase the positive and negative aspects of human behavior, leaving the viewer free to observe and choose.

 

By intentionally abandoning a traditional color palette in favor of white, the artist achieves a masterful accentuation of light and shadow. Every composition is saturated with symbolic depth. Lastovjak entrusts her thoughts to the artistic matter, leaving an indelible imprint of her own emotions within it. Her art defies easy classification or definition - it remains profoundly subtle yet piercingly critical.

 

Gaya Lastovjak’s works have been featured in exhibitions across Austria, Spain, Monaco, Portugal, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands and France. Her paintings are held in prestigious private collections in Switzerland, the USA, Poland, the Netherlands, Germany, and the United Arab Emirates, among others.
