Sajal paints what he sees – what opens up his imagination.  He believes that the thing that is most essential to be an artist is attitude and for him attitude is the way one looks at things.  It is not only the subject that is important for him, but it is also the shapes, the tones, the light and shades, that stir his imagination.  

Sajal has the ability to capture a sense of atmosphere and place.  One can see the light and feel the air in his paintings.   He  takes full advantage of the fluid and organic feel of water colour.  His lovely evocations of street scenes, towns and villages, the still-life(s) are little gems that continue to reward you every time you see them.

Watercolour is often a very frustrating and difficult medium as it depends a lot on the “happy accidents” that takes place when one colour merges with another on the wet paper. To be able to use these "happy accidents" to one's own advantage commands great skill.  Sajal  loves to use this tricky medium to communicate his artistic vision on the joy of living and the ingenuity of human creations.

Sajal believes that a work of art always makes people rediscover how beautiful the world is with all its imperfections.  A work of art may at times have imperfections,– but, when that imperfection enhances the beauty of the work  he lets it get in.  At the same time, when there is any element which looks perfect from the conventional point of view but seems to disturb the painting, he leaves it out. Thus, for him, each painting is an experiment in creating beauty with accompanying trials.
