Sheets

Isabelle Jespersen - France

This poetry is to accompany the artwork :

When an inspiration captivated her soul, she would write for hours forgetting to eat or
sleep. With dilated pupils and gasping breath, the urgency of her movements seemed to
indicate that she was in a trance. At times she raised her eyes to the sky as if invoking the
Gods to whisper a word that escaped her. Then she realized that she could no longer
distinguish dawn from dusk as she had lost the sense of time. When the feverish flow of
those few days had dissipated, she would abandon her notebooks and sheets to move on
to the next draft that would carry her away again. She had left behind an infinite number of
unvarnished writings which, although abandoned, still existed and represented the
breeding ground of her imagination. She lived alone, had no children or partner and
occasionally invited into her home men she'd met on a street corner or in a café.
Surrendering herself to someone for the first time felt like being carried away by words.
White sheets. Desire and inspiration. When their bodies were close to reach climax, wild
plants seemed to spring up here and there, making their way across her wooden floor,
wrapping themselves voluptuously around her hips and clinging voraciously to her neck.
When the moans faded and all was quiet, she was moved by what was already gone but
had however left marks - the warmth of passion, the scent of a perfume, the scratches on
her skin. But they were ephemeral and would eventually disappear too. So she lived to the
rhythm of these fleeting love encounters without trying to build anything, in the den of this
playground for misbehaving children where their nature could express itself unhindered.
Inconstant and reckless, perpetually ecstatic with the beginnings. Like the wind, sometimes
caressing, sometimes whipping more insolently, then tirelessly pursuing its course.

Artwork Description :

That hand grasping a man's hand and disappearing in a whirlwind of sheets and words, represent the parallel duality - between a woman who lets herself be carried away by her creative flow of writing and her body which lets itself go under the sheets of desire.

Sheets is an ode to passion, inspiration and vanishment.
