In Every Stone Sleeps a Crystal

Rocks in Tisvilde, near the spot where the holy spring Helene Kilde seeps out.

In every stone sleeps a crystal is a line from an Enigma album from 1993 or 1994. It was the year I was on exchange in Bologna.

I remember being served a single artichoke as a course in itself, and talking with the father of the family in fragments of French.

And the city’s fountains. And a sense that there was something different about the water, that the city had a different keynote.

On my last evening there, the mother of the girl I had been staying with gave me the Enigma album as a parting gift.
