The inspiration for my piece came from the hurt caused by some unkind comments I experienced in middle school. This has led me to frequently oscillate between self-doubt and confidence. I very much want to overcome this. Being a highly sensitive person, I am acutely aware of and affected by subtle remarks and actions from others. Consequently, I have subconsciously channeled these nuanced perceptions of the attitudes around me, bringing them to the surface and reflecting my own needs through my work.
I sought to capture the subtle behaviors of individuals in shared moments of time. In the video, the surgeon violently dismantles the cello, only to later wrap the now devastated instrument with caring, deliberate hand movements. Denotatively, the cello serves as both a victim and a metaphor for my own body its form reminiscent of the human figure, and the act of sawing it apart carrying the risk of strings snapping toward my face, a tangible danger that echoes my theme: the victim can also become the perpetrator.
