Medusa III

Barbara Styzinski-Seipelt - Germany

A contemporary reinterpretation of Medusa that shifts the myth of petrification into a reflection on perception and the instability of identity. The face, shown in three quarter view, is split between illusionistic paiting and reflective materials such as silver and gold leaf. While one side suggests psychological depth and presence, the other dissolves into light, reflection, and viewer-dependent perception.

The work creates a fluctuating image that changes with light and position, drawing the viewer into an active role. Identity emerges not as a fixed essence, but as a transitional state between visibility and reflection, material and immaterial presence.
