My toughts stretch in every direction seeking the light

This life-size oil painting is a memory from my Art Residency at Vancouver Island where I was overwhelmed by the immensity of the landscape and the wiseness of those ancient trees. My restlessness will not go away by changing place in the world, I learned that a long time ago. My indignation is still here, my concerns about what is happening around us, are still within me, as is the knowledge that we are all involved. But I fell this deep need to go back to nature, to find stillness in it, to find, and see, and show that there’s still beauty, that there’s still hope, that silence can nourish us. These hundreds-years-old trees can heal the soul, spek silently the oldest and most sincere truth, they can teach us, if only we can be still enough and listen.
