Pedro Charters d’Azevedo, born in Lisbon on the 3rd of November 1946. Since very early, has showed curiosity, propensity, creativity and ability for the arts, as some of his family members did. Over the years he has developed his technique and artistic personality as a self-taught artist. In 1999, Pedro Charters d’Azevedo started to present his work such as painting on paper, wood and canvas in exhibits. In 2009, he finally found his identity as an artist, giving him the confidence to be more daring, more spontaneous and freer, dedicating himself to the style that he loves, the deconstruction of the obvious, the abstract. His work has received several awards and he continue to participate in exhibitions, both in Portugal and abroad. Until now, the artist has received a wide variety of painting awards (27), his works have been exhibited in various institutions, he has been represented in various publications, magazines, newspapers, art books, auction catalogues and in the “Quotation of Portuguese Artists at Auction”. His Art evokes an almost expectant sense of space, in which objects, mediums and materials lead the free flow between order and chaos, balance and imbalance, reality and imagination, interior and exterior, light and shadow, affirming a conceptual framework that destabilizes the self-determination of representation. Colourful atmospheres integrate a sinuous and vitalist, rough and intrusive poetics that not only shapes these works but also manifests the unique formulation of the stroke and the gesture that names and guides the world. Omnipresent and tense complicities establish critical contemporary approximations between textures and colours, materials and paints, collages and pastes, nature and culture.
