Sumit Mehndiratta studied MSc. in International Fashion Marketing from Manchester Metropolitan University, UK and indulged in his artistic avenues in his personal time since childhood. At the onset of his career one could see that Sumit was very much influenced by modern visual arts and the abstraction in different art forms. Since then he has found an idiom that is very much his own; photography, paintings and digital art. His photographs represent mainly his love for nature, architecture and conceptual photography and his canvas work represents and appreciates the beauty within the abstraction. Abstraction was his main inspiration behind all his artwork as he believes that “In this sensible world around us, something which doesn’t makes sense and is surreal in its making, is refreshing!”.

Sumit takes his inspiration from geometrical shapes and his love for blending colors over his canvases. It helps him to truly express his passion for abstraction, to which he believes every person, can associate to. On this Sumit told that “My passion towards geometrical shapes was reckoned by my art teacher in 3^rd grade of my schooling when she discovered all sorts of geometrical shapes behind most of my notebooks. She then said to me that it’s the back pages of the notebook that tells who you really are.”

For Sumit, photography and painting started as a stress buster from his monotonous routines and thereon, he indulged more in them as he feels that there are realms of creativity which can only be discovered through art. “When done being completely involved in it, art becomes more meditative than just brushes and canvases.” He adds.

In Manchester, while pursuing his masters he also participated in exhibiting his work for Manchester photographic society and other galleries, both solo and group shows, where his work was acknowledged widely. From there he moved to New York to work for stock photography organization called Shutterstock where he worked as a freelance photographer bringing an Indian aesthetic to the collection of their work.

From Shutter Stock, he went on freelancing for The Art Group, London, which ties deals with the supplying of artwork for established Global home furnishing retailers like Habitat, IKEA, WH Smith, Zara Home, Next Home and with museums like The Guggenheim Museum, The British Museum and many more. After working there he came back to India and opened his own gallery called I’mpulse Art Gallery in Hauz Khas Village, New Delhi, the stepping stone to his career.
