The heart

The Heart – the original, violent, profound wound.

At the center of the triptych What the Body Holds, this piece gives form to a heart in relief, emerging from black-on-black textures.

Crafted from crumpled kraft paper, it evokes the echo of a bruised, trampled organ, marked by five metal nails — symbols of endured violence — and crossed by red scars, metaphors of lingering pain.

The total blackness absorbs both matter and light, drawing the viewer into an abyss of sorrow.

This exposed heart, itself framed like a mise en abyme of its state, becomes a living mass, a memory of trauma inscribed beneath the skin.

Through intense material work, I seek to reveal what the body holds when words fail: deep shocks, buried wounds, and the muted presence of still-vibrant suffering.
