Migration

Sitting in the glacial ice cave, I absorb what nature has created for thousands of years. I recall the mixed emotions about the joy the cave has brought me and my friends over the past few years. Whether it was the adventure to the cave, time with friends, exploring the cave, or just sitting back and taking it all in, the cave brought me and my friends so much joy. However, during this reflection, sadness overcame me as I realized how much the cave and the glacial ice had receded due to the overly warm summers and the ash from nearby forest fires. I pulled out of this funk when my eyes locked on the scalloped ice curving itself into this birdlike structure protruding from the ceiling. The light casts itself into the cave to represent the feelings of the day, the sadness expressed by the dark shadows and the light representing happiness. The photo's name is Migration, inspired by our annual journey to the cave and the birdlike structure representing birds who migrate.
