My name is Basetsana Maluleka and I am a passionate, self taught photographer and upcoming cinematographer born and bred in Pretoria, Mamelodi.

I have always been fascinated by learning new things. I think naturally as people, we love the idea of learning something new and finding out what we didn't know. It gives us confidence, unlocks us and makes us more human. I love the idea of being part of the generation that is not afraid to learn and teach. I am fascinated by how my people's stories are all connected and resonate with each other.

Storytelling is a part of who I am. I fall in love with it every day. The idea that I am "defying the norms" and capturing moments that resonate with my soul gives me fulfilment. When they resonate with another soul, even if it's just one, I feel whole. Storytelling is the art in which the teller bares all and risks it all to either be appreciated or criticised and that is a risk I always take. It is a risk I vowed to take; not just for myself, but for the young people out there who rely on us storytellers to inspire, motivate and be a voice for them.
