Ranging from photography to painting and textile sculpture, Eleonora Mendizza Barbarossa’s artistic practice inquires into the perception and representation of reality - both external and internal, from an individual and collective perspective. She is best known for her photodynamist artworks depicting abstract landscapes obtained through camera movement.

Her compound practice explores the themes of mental health and self consciousness in western fragmented society. Her series “Mind the gap between yourself and reality” makes use of natural subjects to invite the audience to question the unconscious processes from which representation of ourselves and reality derives.

Born in 1991 in Trieste, Italy, Mendizza studied philosophy and literature and graduated in sociology from the University of Padua. Currently residing in her hometown, the artist’s work dialogues with the pioneer territory legacy in the field of mental health.
Her photodynamist work has been presented at The International Photo Awards (IPA) 2023 and The Budapest International Foto Awards (BIFA) 2023, and has received an Honorable Mention in both cases in the fine art abstract category.
