Zen City 009

Kenji Ichikawa - Japan

This work from the Zen City series centers on a circular form reminiscent of a hard-disk platter—a symbolic vessel for memory and data. While the image initially appears mechanical, a closer look reveals that its surface is constructed entirely from botanical fragments. Reflections of leaves, petals, and natural textures—captured and reassembled through my Pixel Montage technique—transform the metallic disk into a meditation on nature and perception.

The tension between the organic materials and the technological structure questions how memory is stored, processed, and interpreted. Grid-like arrangements and circuitry-inspired lines around the central disk reinforce the illusion of a machine interior, yet the work remains firmly rooted in natural origins.

By embedding living imagery into a digital metaphor, the piece bridges the inner spaces of machines and the environments we inhabit. It invites viewers to reconsider the nature of memory—not only as something preserved in devices, but as something carried by bodies, landscapes, and lived experience. The image becomes a metaphorical storage device, layered with rhythms, histories, and traces of the natural world.
