The Great Escape-La Grande Fuga

The Great Escape (La Grande Fuga) reflects on the inherited roles traditionally imposed on women and the domestic sphere in which they have been reinforced. Crochet and lace—materials historically associated with feminine domestic labor, care, and decoration—become fragmented and unruly, pushing beyond the boundaries of the frame. The figure remains partially contained by both the fabric and the deliberately aged frame, suggesting that liberation from inherited expectations is neither simple nor instantaneous. The work explores the tension between what we inherit, what contains us, and the impulse to break beyond it.
