Valentino's Autumn Progression

Title: Valentino's Autumn Progression

20 × 20 cm stretched canvases; 13 pieces in total; hand-sewn and glued plastic beads, fabric, and thread.

Description: “Valentino's Autumn Progression”consists of thirteen stretched canvases of varying heights, presenting a sequential narrative of the changing seasons. I used hand-stitched beads to trace the flow of fallen leaves within the park and along the riverbank, employing the beads as tangible symbols of external forces such as the weather. Through a dialogue between the distinct properties of materials—fabric, thread, and plastic beads—the work creates an installation that expresses the passage of time and the reshaping of nature.

I frequently walk in Valentino Park; it holds a wonderful allure for me. Whenever I have free time, I want to stroll there or lie on the grass. During every visit, I photograph the park’s scenery—whether it is the small animals or the plants, there is always something to surprise me. Eventually, I began visiting regularly every autumn evening to observe the changing state of the fallen leaves.

The first photograph shows the spot in Valentino Park where the leaves begin to fall earliest. When conceiving this piece, I could no longer recall the exact location—nor had I kept a record—so I chose this spot as the starting point, symbolizing the onset of autumn. The first image in the second row depicts a rainy scene; following an autumn shower, the fallen leaves in Valentino Park became denser and gathered in piles. The first image in the third row captures the aftermath of strong winds; gusts scattered the foliage, carpeting the park ground with leaves. The drop in temperature did not happen all at once, yet it was the primary factor driving the heavy leaf fall. Finally, when all the leaves had fallen, winter arrived, leaving the landscape bare and devoid of any remaining foliage.
