Rooted in a Dream

Inspired by Zhuangzi’s Butterfly Dream, Rooted in a Dream explores how we are constantly changing, often without even noticing.

Change does not always happen through dramatic events. Sometimes it takes place quietly, through everyday experiences, memories and the passing of time. We may feel that we are still the same person, only to look back and realize how much we have changed.

Zhuangzi’s philosophy questions the certainty of who we are and how we experience reality. Drawing on this idea, the painting reflects on identity as something that is never completely fixed, but continuously shaped by life.

In a world where we often seek stability and a clear sense of who we are, this painting invites us to embrace the uncertainty of becoming. It suggests that transformation is not always something we consciously choose or recognize, but something that happens naturally as we move through life.
