24 year old Nontokozo is a self-taught abstract artist from Tembisa, a township in the east of Johannesburg. Her interest in art began in an Arts and Culture classroom early in high school where she would always jump at the opportunity to draw or paint just about anything. After matriculating, she went on to pursue a BSc degree in Microbiology and Biotechnology at Wits university. It was during these years in varsity that she rediscovered her love for art, abstract art in particular. She felt it offered her freedom to express her thoughts freely without any restrictions, as opposed to science. Nontokozo’s preferred medium is acrylic on canvas, however she has also worked with watercolors, acrylic inks and soft pastels.
