In this work, I wanted to explore the theme of time and our perception of it. Through the metaphor of unusual triangular-shaped geometric curtains, I tried to imagine how one might “show time in a single, timeless instant,” rather than conceive of it as something linear. In keeping with this idea, the piece has no hands. I made the piece entirely by hand using beech, poplar, and walnut plywood. I used solvent-free products to stain the wood and finished it with shellac. The adhesives used are waterproof. The work therefore combines traditional natural materials that have been used for centuries, such as shellac, with modern, high-performance adhesives used in contemporary construction—another way of expressing the metaphor of different times coming together. A modern quartz movement is mounted on the back and can, if desired, be operated with standard batteries.
