Sun: A Triptych for the Solar Eclipse

August 12th 2026 at 20:03 CEST an axis partially connected the Sun and Copenhagen at the moment the Moon covered most of the Sun, the most complete solar eclipse since 1954, the year my father must have been just over 6 months old.

The work 'Sun: Triptychs for Solar Eclipses' (/sʌn/)  contains, amongst other elements, a matrix with 10 words, as raw text, a system poem with 72 variants, one for each solar eclipse in Saros 126.

At a later stage, this structure was converted into executable Prolog code and uploaded to GitHub.

The plan was to inscribe the program into a Zenodo archive, and, in that manner, pull the Sun into the womb of CERN's data centre in Switzerland.

I didn't succeed completely; something must have distracted me, because suddenly, I saw that the time was 20:13. It felt like it had just been 19:12.

Zenodo lists 2026-08-12T18:13:55.785751+00:00 as time of inscription of the archive.

In addition to the system poem, 'Sun' consists of a photo taken with a  Nikon D200 of a broken card reader at Hellerup Station combined with a hand-drawn sketch titled 'Lightman', inspired by David Bowie's 'Starman' from 1972.

This material led to the generation of 3 short video sequences, one for each of the words in the first vertical axis, the subject position, of the system poem: Apertures, Apparitions, Auguries, all plural nouns of Latin origin, two of which also draw meaning from the world of photography and the world of visual phenomena.
