Eternal Forest

During a walk through the depths of Richmond Park, nearby to my studio, I had a feeling of immense calm and began to reflect on the importance of preserving nature. The pathway led me to the Isabella Plantation, past wild grasslands where a family of deer were quietly grazing, and my thoughts evolved to how our environment and can continue to be enjoyed by future generations.

'Eternal Forest' is an abstract painting inspired by the landscape I studied, which took me on a journey of self expression. The ring of light forms as a glimmer of hope, showing how the evergreen landscapes can thrive amongst biodiversity, essential to our ecosystem. The dark grey layers were inspired by the growth lines of a tree, running from the outer bark through the sapwood to the heart of a tree. I used made tools for mark-making and mixed a charcoal grey palette which I loosely passed through the canvas. 

My aim was to evoke the calmness and reflect on the sanctity of nature, and its sense of being.
