Shunyata & Maya

Shivet Pande - India

Besides the obvious technique of mirroring, the painting sees reflection as a motif of identity. The four characters on the right are seeking their sense of Identity through the prism of aspirations. Right in the centre of the painting rests the reflection of a girl depicting her desire to be in the circle of affluence enjoyed by the characters at the bar. The cycle continues to be finally concluded by the yogi. Unlike all the others, the notion of aspiration has ceased for the yogi and he is content to be, just be, balancing the extremes of shunyata (nothingness) and maya (illusion)
