YICCA WINNER - First place. February 2019. HDLU Meštrović Pavilion. Zagreb, Croatia.

Ana Maria Chamucero is a Colombian visual artist. In 2019, she won first place at the YICCA exhibition with her work titled Walker. The piece is an assemblage of five aluminum walkers. It is activated when five people coordinate their steps to make it move. This interactive artwork addresses the idea of community and reflects on how people can reach a goal if they come together and collaborate to achieve it.

Her current work develops around resourcefulness, understanding it not only as a process in which we use whatever is at hand, unused or discarded but also as an action that repeats itself endlessly. Hence, her current practice sheds light on everyday objects, their industrial or serial character, and their relationship with the body. She uses them to create assemblages, drawings, and photographic archives.

Leila Topić on Ana Maria Chamucero and her work:
"Ana María Chamucero’s Walker represents a great metaphor for the need for creating communities guided by a common interest – this artwork only exists as a sum of individual objects. The artist points out that she tries to create a feeling of collectiveness by using a functional object which would normally be used by just one person. The artistic form takes shape only through the collaboration of seemingly disparate elements."
