Born in 1990 in Madagascar (Ambalavao), Eddy Bessa was raised in a multicultural and colonial influenced setting, that impacted his view on societal construction. Since his early childhood, painting has been a part of Eddy Bessa’s everyday life. At the age of  7, his parents Abeline and Paul recognized his skills and supported him as much as they could. Very soon Eddy Bessa understood,  that by art, he can have an impact on people. He is using art as a vehicle to open up to others, to cause discussions about our all subjective experienced life realities, and thereby to empower people to question their ideas. From that point on, the quote of Edgar Degas became his assignment: “Art is not what you see but what you make others see”.

In 2009 he completed his high school in Madagascar and started the same year his studies in English at  Ankatso University in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

In 2011 he decided to move to Indonesia to complete a University degree in language and culture at Institute Seni Indonesia Padangpanjang, moreover to experience life within a new cultural setting. In 2012 he started his bachelor's degree in Arts at the Institut Seni Indonesia Padangpanjang and graduated from it in 2016.

Studying and living in a culturally diverse country like Indonesia, has made his share but also exchange perspectives on arts. This has led him to expand his art, by dedicating himse1lf to learn to sculpture. Therefore, he attended a Master's Degree program in painting and sculpture at the Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta from 2016 to 2019.

Eddy Bessa’s artwork is mainly inspired by the observations and experiences he makes in his environment. He is questioning the societal contraction and thereby uses his artwork to draw attention to the disbalance towards the connection between nature, humanity, society, and technology. Since he is inspired by reality, he chooses mainly a realistic or surrealistic style to convey his messages and visions to others. Most of his paintings are acrylic and oil painting on canvas. However, he also uses different mixed mediums such as pens, Chinese ink, or pencils depending on the concept of the artwork.
