Perfect Lover II

Can Sun - United Kingdom

Can Sun's works predominantly focus on the absurd nature of the world and interpersonal relationships, utilizing daily objects that people often overlook as the main subject of his creations. By recombining the metaphors behind these objects, Sun transforms them into humorous and self-deprecating sculptures, with the apple series being one of his signature works.

"Perfect Lover I" and "Perfect Lover II" are two interconnected pieces. Carved to complement each other’s missing parts, these seemingly incomplete apples metaphorically explore the perfection and imperfection within relationships, highlighting that wholeness in a partnership extends beyond individual completeness to mutual complementarity.

Echoing Erwin Wurm's concept of “one minute sculptures,” Sun's artworks encapsulate the transient and ephemeral nature of art, existing only in the moment of their creation and the subsequent photographic records, challenging the traditional notion of art as eternal and unchanging.

The works are ultimately exhibited as photographs with exceptional framing details:

  • Photo Size: 200 x 160 mm
  • Frame Size: 500 x 400 x 40 mm
  • Glass: Tru Vue UV Glass
  • Frame: Black Walnut
  • Painting: Giclee Print
  • Paper: Bainbridge Paper

All materials are museum level and replicate the actual size of a real apple.
