Dariusz Witold Mierzwa (born 1959 in Chorzów, Poland) is a visual artist working primarily in painting and mixed media, combining traditional techniques with digital processes. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Katowice and is a member of the Association of Polish Visual Artists and Mondial Art Academia in Paris.
His practice is rooted in symbolic surrealism and focuses on the contemporary human condition in relation to time, memory and transformation. Mierzwa constructs visual metaphors in which the human figure becomes a carrier of existential experience - suspended between reality and metaphysical space. Organic forms are often juxtaposed with architectural or cosmic structures, creating narratives about identity, fragility and inner tension.
Rather than illustrating mythology, he uses archetypal imagery as a language to describe modern anxieties, environmental imbalance and the psychological landscape of the present. Recurring motifs such as faces, hands and solitary figures function as universal signs of perception, awareness and vulnerability.
He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Poland and internationally, including projects in Spain, France, Italy and other European countries. His works have received distinctions at the Luxembourg Art Prize and are held in private collections across Europe and abroad.
For Mierzwa, painting is a reflective process - an attempt to translate inner states into visual form, where matter and symbol coexist and meaning emerges through ambiguity.
