Broken Open

Yant Jin - United Kingdom

Broken Open draws inspiration from Virginia Woolf’s Orlando whoses idea of identity fluidity forms the basis of the work. Identity is not a constant. It is a sociocultural construct. This construct is mutable. When external conditions shift, the existing identity begins to loosen. Its components separate, bend, and recombine. The self moves toward a new iteration.

Broken Open is a series of four works. Each piece investigates a different aspect of identity transformation and contributes to a reorganized visual narrative. In digital space, physical limits are removed. Materials can be defined and altered at will. Their transformation forces form to reshape itself. Identity follows the same logic. Digital cinematography, lighting, atmosphere, and sound are used to intensify this process.
